In both wood frame and concrete there is complicated organizing and scheduling of the labour force and in concrete, formwork to be built and concrete to set and cure which can take up to 30 days. In using shipping containers, there are far less people involved, since the incredibly strong frame has already been built. The only additional preparation of the containers is to cut openings for windows and door.

Re: Container House by Debbie Glassberg

That's just mindblowing.

Re: Awesome idea for cargo houses

Wouldn't mind one of those for a holiday home!

Re: wanna swim … ? you can swim in a shipping container pool

Never even thought of this one as a concept. Swimming pool made out of shipping containers.
I love this blog guys, it's totally opened my eyes to new possibilities with these containers. I just wanted to build my own home from one.

All in three days??

I can see how easy it is to enclose a large area and throw a big roof over the whole thing. Really really neat idea.

Re: Idekit house – Quebec shipping container home

Thanks for the links. When you contact your metal building supplier, make sure that you hand them your floor plan so that they would know exactly what you need. Metal buildings that are being produced nowadays uses state-of-the art technology and uses clear span or open spam frames so that no support columns are required. Thus, when your metal building is finished, you have an interior that is obstacle free and it’s up to you to decide on how you want your floor or building compartmentalized or divided.

Re: Idekit house – Quebec shipping container home

If you are considering modular or prefab home, building with recycled shipping containers is worth taking a look at.

Good resource is the Residential Shipping Container Primer website. A SHOWCASE OF SHIPPING CONTAINER HOMES AND BUILDINGDS, AND A DO IT YOURSELF (DIY) REFERENCE FOR CONVERTING RECYCLED INTERMODAL CARGO SHIPPING CONTAINERS INTO BUILDINGS AND? ARCHITECTURE.

Lots of great example buildings, details, facts, and links to other articles...
